SUMMARY:2024 Ocean Decade Conference
DESCRIPTION:Focused on ‘delivering the science we need for the ocean we want’\, the 2024 Ocean Decade Conference hosted by the Government of Spain in Barcelona from 10 – 12 April 2024\, will bring together the global Ocean Decade community and partners to celebrate and take stock of progress\, and set joint priorities for the future. It will be the highlight of an entire Ocean Decade Week taking place on 8 – 12 April 2024 throughout the city. \nThe time is now to address key questions related to the Ocean Decade: What have been the main achievements since the launch of the Ocean Decade? What should be the key areas for action over the next three to five years? An important milestone on the path to 2030\, the event will cover the full range of Ocean Decade Challenges including critical issues such as climate change\, food security\, sustainable management of biodiversity\, sustainable ocean economy\, pollution\, and natural hazards.

SUMMARY:EGU General Assembly
DESCRIPTION:The EGU General Assembly 2024 brings together geoscientists from all over the world to one meeting covering all disciplines of the Earth\, planetary\, and space sciences. The EGU aims to provide a forum where scientists\, especially early career researchers\, can present their work and discuss their ideas with experts in all fields of geoscience.

SUMMARY:Observing the Dynamics of the Southern Ocean
DESCRIPTION:The Southern Ocean and Antarctic margins play a central role in regulating sea level rise and our global climate. These regions are also some of the most challenging to conduct sustained observational programs due to the immense logistical difficulties in accessing them. It is critical that we build on the successes of ongoing observational efforts and align future US-led campaigns to complement emerging international programs to ensure the Southern Ocean observing network is prepared for future scientific needs. \nThis two-and-a-half-day workshop will facilitate discussion on the challenges\, opportunities\, and priorities for future observational efforts in the Southern Ocean\, emphasizing year-round observational approaches that can monitor the rapidly evolving sea ice-covered regions and Antarctic margins. A key outcome of this workshop will be a forward-looking white paper document that will guide the research community regarding:  \n\nCritical scientific questions concerning the ocean circulation and climate variability across the subpolar Southern Ocean\nLogistical and technological needs for sustaining year-round observations across the Antarctic subpolar region\nWays to strengthen and diversify the Antarctic oceanographic community and improve international coordination.\n\nIf you are interested in receiving email updates about this workshop\, please fill out this expression of interest form. Registration will be free. Further details regarding the agenda\, travel support\, and other meeting logistics will be provided soon.

SUMMARY:US CLIVAR- Pathways Connecting Climate Changes to the Deep Ocean: Tracing Physical\, Biogeochemical\, and Ecological Signals From Surface to Deep Sea
DESCRIPTION:This US CLIVAR/OCB workshop welcomes the participation of scientists from fields across the ocean observing and modeling communities\, spanning physics\, biogeochemistry\, and ecology. We also encourage participation from relevant oceanographic networks and observing campaigns (e.g.\, Deep Argo\, BGC Argo\, GO-SHIP (Global Ocean Shipboard Hydrographic Investigations Program) and Bio-GO-SHIP\, JETZON (Joint Exploration of the Twilight Zone Ocean Network)\, ECCO and ECCO-Darwin (Estimating the Circulation and Climate of the Ocean)\, DOSI (Deep Ocean Stewardship Initiative)\, Challenger-150\, PICES (North Pacific Marine Science Organization) to ensure broad disciplinary representation and connectivity to established programs. Student\, postdoc\, and early-career scientist participation is highly encouraged. Limited travel support is available for students\, early career scientists (within 10 years of last degree)\, and scientists from underrepresented races/ethnicities. A short application form will be provided during registration. \nThe workshop aims to: \n\nProvide an updated comprehensive assessment of the deep ocean’s state and changes across disciplines\, of key quantities in which these changes are expressed\, and of pathways and timescales connecting the surface to the seafloor.\nReview existing observation and modeling tools and their adequacy for constraining\, understanding\, and attributing changes in the deep ocean system. Identify critical knowledge and observational data gaps and model deficiencies.\nDevelop a collective set of recommendations for improved detection and attribution of change in the global deep ocean system\, with a focus on better serving and supporting deep ocean science across disciplines.\nBuild an interdisciplinary network of ocean modelers and observers across disciplines. Our aim is to open communication channels and facilitate collaborative exchange of data\, knowledge\, and tools across communities.\n\nThis 2.5-day workshop will be hybrid\, with both in-person and virtual participation options. The schedule will include plenary sessions\, poster sessions\, and breakout discussion sessions. \nFor more information visit:  https://usclivar.org/meetings/pathways-connecting-climate-changes-to-deep-sea
