Three floats were deployed from the R/V Kilo Moana on the Hawai’i Ocean Time (HOT) series expedition #342. These three floats are loaded with experimental sensors to help researchers develop newer and better technology to measure the ocean.  Taking advantage of ships of opportunity like the Kilo Moana helped to get these test floats deployed.

Float status including number of completed profiles to date is available in the Float Status Table.

Associated documentation, shipboard validation data sets (if collected), and float data sets are available on our Shipboard Calibration and Validation Datasets page.

The floats deployed from the Kilo Moana as part of the HOT 342 expedition were adopted by schools in the U.S. Check out all adopted floats on the Adopt-a-float data table, photos of floats can be found on our Flickr page.
