February 2023

Seven GO-BGC floats were deployed from the R/V Ron Brown as part of the GO-SHIP A16N expedition.  This expedition traveled along a nearly straight line north from between Brazil and the west coast of Africa, to Iceland collecting samples and deploying floats along the way.

As a GO-SHIP expedition, many of the crew members blogged and posted images from the expedition on our Expedition Logs page.

Float status including number of completed profiles to date is available in the Float Status Table.

Associated documentation, shipboard validation data sets (if collected), and float data sets are available on our Shipboard Calibration and Validation Datasets page.

Floats deployed from the Ron Brown as part of the A16N expedition were adopted by schools in California, Pensylvania and the United Kingdom. Check out all adopted floats on the Adopt-a-float data table.

Data Diver was deployed in the southern Atlantic Ocean from the R/V Ron Brown. Data Diver will be profiling the ocean for the next 4 or 5 years and sending data to researchers about inventories of CO2, tracers, and heat and freshwater transports in the ocean.

Eisenhut Elementary’s Eagles in the Deep is destined for greatness!  Eagles in the Deep was deployed 4 degrees north of the equator in the Atlantic Ocean.  Like other BGC floats, Eagles in the Deep will profile the ocean from 2,000m to the surface every 10 days, sending valuble information to assist researchers in understanding how our planet and especially the ocean is changing.
