GO-SHIP P02: Minnie Paul

Deploying the float mascot of grade 3 of Mississippi Creative Arts School

11 May 2022

Day 11 @ Sea, Minnie Paul with the CUTEST Minnie on it in the water! She is the float mascot of grade 3 of Mississippi Creative Arts School. Can we show you how we deploy the floats?

First of all, our Rec-tech Josh Manger moved this 80-pound piece of art out of its crate (thanks to the cardio room and weight room on Revelle; Image 1).

Then, Vic Dana, a master’s student from the University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Sciences, carefully cleaned the optical nitrate sensor (silver probe indicated by the upper red arrow in Image 2) and the bio-optical sensor that measures the chlorophyll (black tube indicated by the lower red arrow in Image 2). You can see in Image 2 the rope tied to the ship—the other end was actually passed through a hole on the white deployment disk and held firmly in Vic’s hand. In Image 3 you can see Minnie Paul was gradually lowered to the water safe and sound. Have a good voyage, Minnie Paul!
