June 2023
In 2023, the R/V Revelle conducted a basin-wide expedition in the Indian Ocean made up of smaller expeditions including the DMBE; Port Louis, Mauritius to Goa, India transit; ASTRAL/EKAMSAT; Goa, India to Fremantle, Australia transit; and the IO5 expedition. GO-BGC saves time and money by utilizing research vessles of opportunity, like the Revelle, to deploy floats as it travels between ports to pick up new researchers and equipment; as in the transit from Goa, India to Fremantle, Australia.
During the ASTRAL/EKAMSAT portion of the Indian Ocean expedition, one float was deployed in the Arabian Sea. This float experienced the Cyclone Biparjoy shortly after deployment which provided oceanographic insight to this event.
Float status including number of completed profiles to date is available in the Float Status Table.
Associated documentation, shipboard validation data sets (if collected), and float data sets are available on our Ship and Ancillary Data page.
The floats deployed from the Revelle as part of the ASTRAL/EKAMSAT expedition were adopted by schools across the U.S. Check out all adopted floats on the Adopt-a-float data table.
