July 2023

In 2023, the R/V Revelle conducted a basin-wide expedition in the Indian Ocean made up of smaller expeditions including the DMBE (in green on map); Mauritius to India transit (in orange); ASTRAL/EKAMSAT (not displayed on map); India to Australia transit (in blue); and the Indian Ocean 5 (IO5) Expedition. The IO5 Expedition traveled across the southern Indian Ocean from Fremantle, Australia to Cape Town, South Africa (in red on the map).

Three GO-BGC floats were deployed from the R/V Revelle as part of the IO5 Expedition.  Float status including number of completed profiles to date is available in the Float Status Table.

Associated documentation, shipboard validation data sets (if collected), and float data sets are available on our Shipboard Calibration and Validation Datasets page.

The floats deployed from the Revelle as part of the IO5 were adopted by schools from California, Georgia, and Missouri. Check out all adopted floats on the Adopt-a-float data table, photos of floats can be found on our Flickr page.

Nautifish was named for sailors, fish and maritime practices which is a great name since it will be cruising around the southern Indian Ocean for the next 5 years.
