GO-SHIP P02: Making Our Way

Introducing Lauren Moseley, who will be deploying ARGO floats on Leg 1

16 April 2022

Hello! My name is Lauren Moseley (she/her) and I’m one of four graduate students participating in Leg 1 of the P02 cruise to run CTD operations. I am also the lead for deploying the Argo floats during Leg 1. You’ll hear more about these two things soon, after we board the R/V Roger Revelle and begin our trek across the Pacific 🙂

Our time before boarding the ship has been an adventure in itself. I departed New York on April 7 with Shuwen Tan, co-Chief Scientist of Leg 1 and my colleague at Columbia University. We flew to Hawaii, spent ~24 hours in beautiful Waikiki, and arrived in Guam two calendar days after beginning our journey. After a brief day of safely exploring Guam’s finest grocery stores, our science party began a seven-day quarantine. To help (or hinder) our sanity during isolation, we have been filling our days with: sunrises, sunsets, Zoom meetings, virtual gaming, beach walks, and a lot of TV. After COVID testing on Saturday, we are planning to board the boat on Monday at the Naval base. Almost there!
